Are you one of those groups associated with the radical religious right we hear so much about?

Absolutely not! We do not support a Christian take-over of the US government in an effort to make our nation more Christian. Each Christian of faith is to act on his/her own conscience as the Spirit leads and try to bring about more just system that is equitable and compassionate to “the least of these.” This is not done through manipulation of the system but by changed hearts and minds.

Are you going to try to save my soul?

Absolutely not! We’ll let the Spirit of God take care of the saving business! We are more interested in how we can live Jesus’ message of love and justice. Just imagine the liberation and reconciliation possibilities this can bring if each of us truly lives the gospel!

What about gays and lesbians?

All are welcome at the banquet table to which Jesus invites us. It is not for us to judge, scapegoat, stereotype, or attempt to change another whether it is done out of sincerity, loving concern, or a desire to earn another star in our crown. Since none of us controls God’s invitation list we cannot tell others they don’t belong unless they are straight, repentant, or celibate.

Are you part of the University?

No. We are a private entity just as Hillel and the Newman Center are. We work collegially through the Chaplain’s office on the Interfaith Council to create a climate at Penn that will encourage students’ faith development and expand our understandings of religion and its role in our lives.

How can I get involved?

We are actively seeking out student input for our future direction as a ministry. All programming and discussions emerge from what the students want.. All members of the Christian Association must be comfortable with the fact that the banquet table is prepared and the invitations are sent out to all. There will be opportunity for shared food, fun and fellowship; for discussion and worshipful, prayerful times together; for lecture, celebration and relaxation. (See the Programs page for more information) We hope that you'll find the CA and staff to be friendly, open and a "safe space." Rev. Dale welcomes you for chats about personal concerns and cosmic events. Keep alert for announcements of events, through the Daily Pennsylvanian, email, the web site and other means of communication.
