Bring your lunch or pick it up in Houston Hall, over lunch we will discuss gems from The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Love Wins

Love Wins. A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived. * Thursdays at 7:45-9 p.m. at the Christian Association * Snacks provided. * Please note slight time change to 7:45 p.m.
Love Wins! Rob Bell challenged by one person's notion that Gandhi didn't make it to heaven, gives a courageous alternative answer to the old heaven and hell question. Have you thought about God's generous mercy and grace and this topic? We read one chapter of the short book out loud each week. After reading, we decided to take time to look at Scripture verses quoted, take time to journal/for reflection, and then dive into conversation! We also have a discussion guide on Love Wins. No need to read the book before coming to Small Group! If you want a chance to think about heaven and hell in a safe, open environment, hope to see you this Thursday. Please email me at bowenc (at) pobox.upenn (dot) edu if you would like a free copy of the book. Feel free to bring your Bible; several Bibles will be available.

Another World Is Possible

If you liked Jesus, Bombs & Ice Cream - check this out!: Another World Is Possible Discussion Group * Start Date/Time TBD at the Christian Association. Snacks provided.
Another World IS Possible! Join our discussion group to ponder Shane Claiborne's DVD series on war, poverty and creation. Watch clips of the DVDs, break open Scripture that illuminates these powerful themes, and share what speaks to you about the stories. Hear from Christians that are earnestly trying to be peacemakers - ordinary radicals figuring how how to follow in Jesus' footsteps by sharing what they have, speaking out against violence, and caring for the environment. Feel free to bring your Bible; several Bibles will be available.

Job and the Mystery of Suffering: Spiritual Reflections

"We want answers, we've wanted clarity, closure, solutions... the decent language of Jesus or Job or the Jewish prophets are talking much more about this way of tears, this way about going into the shadow, into the pain, into the dark side if you will and that being there we would find wisdom." ~ Richard Rohr, OFM.

This classic book delves into the book of Job and the problem of suffering/evil in the world. Want to read Job, a poem often considered the most profound literary work of the Old Testament? Want to dig in and explore what suffering means for us beyond platitudes and doom? This Scripture Study Small Group will read Rohr's spiritual reflections on Job, explore Job firsthand, and reflect on the suffering we have encountered. The group will most likely meet on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, once a week at the CA, for a timeframe of an hour and a half each, exact start time to be determined by members.
