"It's amazing what being in a room full of energetic elementary-age children will teach you about yourself and about the world around you. Just beyond the fringes of Penn's campus lies a world of discovery."

Volunteers will work with children from 1st to 6th grade (6 to 13 years old) in small groups as well as one-on-one, at various Philadelphia schools that serve predominantly low-income African American communities (locations are listed below).

We are looking for people who love children! Our volunteers create safe, peaceful, and loving environments for children who are surrounded by violence. Volunteers must be responsible, dedicated, and willing to learn. There are no religious requirements.

In addition to individual volunteers, we are also looking for performing arts groups to perform for and interact with the children. In the past, groups such as Penn Dhamaka and Stimulus Children's Theater have worked with Peacemaking Through the Arts.

Peacemaking Through the Arts is organized by our Program Coordinator, Fran de la Torre, C'04 and GSE '07, and our Artist in Residence, Marcy Francis.
