SLANGuage ESL Classes

SLANGuage is an ESL class teaching English and US culture, with emphasis on peace and justice issues, through the eyes of faith.

This program entered its 15th year in Feb 2012 with Dr. Bill Kelly, international scholars, and family members. Live and recorded music, conversation over snacks and the use of news articles, comics, questions, medical terms, writing exercises,  issues of the day, sacred and secular texts, popular songs, and other activities create a non-threatening environment for practicing American English and learning U.S. culture.

SLANGuage Celebrates 14 Years

February 8th will mark the start of the 15th year of SLANGuage. During the 14 years that the class has been in existence, over 400 students have passed through our doors. It has been a joy for Bill Kelly and others at The Christian Association to meet all these people and to try to help them improve their English and better understand American culture. There are too many students to thank individually, but Bill would like to point out two who came in the first few weeks and with whom he is still in touch. These are Danling Zhao, who is now back in Beijing, and Yuhui Zeng, who now lives and works in Shanghai. To them and to all the others he says, "Thank you for enriching our lives and being friends. Yuan Shangdi baoyou nimen! (May God bless you!)" Congratulations to Bill on his 14 years of service to international students!
