Proseminars for the Class of 2012

"Sex, Alcohol, and Ethics"

Welcome to Penn, where the norm is study hard and party harder! But does “party hard” mean get wasted and hook up?! This session does not preach or say “no” to parties, sex or drinking; it’s about negotiating Penn’s party scene ethically! Let’s figure out how to be comfortable in your skin and develop well-considered party and sexual ethics…before parties begin. We will explore how to be social and have fun without regrets or hangovers.

1-3pm  (with Rev. Dr. Beverly Dale, General Minister & President)

Spiritual Care for “Over-Achievers”

What do you do during exams when you can't concentrate, your body only sleeps, and your life is in meltdown? This workshop will teach you first aid tips for your mind, body and spirit. You'll learn techniques that in only 15 minutes can rejuvenate your whole self. We’ll experience meditation, guided imagery, music and rhythm to settle your mind's frantic racing, and discuss ways to center yourself physically, spiritually and mentally. No faith experience required.

3-5pm (with Marcy Francis, Artist and Healer in Residence)

Diverse in Faith, United in Purpose

Who says people of faith have dull lives?! At the CA House we routinely talk about sex (with ethics), justice (in DC and in our local communities), community service (teaching children peacemaking) and activism. Sit in a group with Penn upperclassmen that is diverse in faith but united in purpose to talk about how you can make the world the better place while being a Penn student. We will have some out-of-this world munchies.

4-6pm (with Fran de la Torre, '07, Program Coordinator)
